Rakel's writing explanation about possums

Possums the problem.

A possum is a pest that was shipped from Australia to New Zealand
by the early British settlers in 1837. They thought it was a great idea
to ship possums from Australia to New Zealand because they could
get money from making a fur industry to sell their fur for more money.
In my writing, I will be explaining how possums are changing our forest.
Firstly they devour the new growth leaves of our native trees, secondly,
they devour the fruits and flowers, thirdly they eat our native creatures,
and lastly, they devour our native creatures eggs.

First possums are changing our beautiful green forest by eating the
new
growth leaves which causes our trees to die including our native
New Zealand trees such as pohutukawa, kauri, rata and also kowhai
and if there are no trees that mean we have no oxygen.

Secondly, they devour our fruit and flowers which means there will be
less food for our native creatures and insects which they need to
survive
on and maybe they might become extinct.

Thirdly they eat our native creatures and insects which means they
cannot pollinate or reduce food supply and they could become extinct.

And lastly, they also eat our native creatures eggs which might cause
them to become extinct and have no more native New Zealand animals,
creatures or insects. Because they are growing at a faster rate every
year. The more they eat would cause these native birds to go extinct.

Possums are destroying our environment by killing our native trees
and creatures, animals and also insects. We need to find a way to
help get rid of this pest from changing our environment. As you can
see the diagram below everything works together but now possums
come in and are disrupting our ecosystem.

Rakel's reading questions

What is the story about?

The signing of the found document between the queen of England and more than 500 maori chiefs.

Why did the author write this story? Why do you think that? I think Ross Calman wrote the story because we celebrate waitangi day every year.

What were the main idea(s) of what you read? What were the supporting details that told you more about the main idea? Signing the founding document.

What did you find interesting as you were reading today? I found some interesting words.

Did you find any interesting while you were reading? What was it? Use a dictionary to find out its meaning and write a sentence of your own using the interesting word you found?

Unruly: david was being unruly. Empire:

british ruled over and empire.

Colonisation: the queen of england did a colonisation.

In the morning on the 22nd of october 2019 Room 7 played a game called alphabet challenge game.

In the morning I came into school late but I woke up early and I was running late because I live far away. I came to school and room 7 was playing the alphabet game I came into class and miss ashley explained the rules to me and we were on the 2nd round and the topic was movie titles.

There were alphabet letters on paper going down and then we had to write the names that start with that letter and we could skip letters there were lots of yelling. My buddy’s were fereti and mathew we had a lot of movie titles and we came 6th place we got 10 points.

All the other teams did very good after the game we had to write about what happened after that we had to have morning tea at school and I don’t have much stuff for lunch but it is very very good/tasty/yummy and very nice.

My favorite part or topic was the movie colum because I love to watch movies also my favorite letter was f because my favorite movie is fast and Furious. and I have seen the new fast and Furious it is called hobbs and shaw and it is my favorite movie.

Rakel's puzzle game information

On thursday the 17th of october 2019 Room 7 played a puzzle game called wasgij.
Miss ashley explained the rules there had to be four groups and each group gets a jigsaw puzzle and tries to complete it then if you complete the first one you get one more. Whichever group finishes two then they have to go and help another group.
It took so long we start school at 9:00 and we finished the jigsaw puzzle at 10:05 then we started to write about the jigsaw game. I didn’t play because I came late and I didn’t want to go into any of the groups.
My friend joshua said to me “come and play the jigsaw game” and I replied “nah I am not good at puzzles” and he explained “who cares just come and play” but I said “no thanks”.
My favorite part was when my friend joshua won the game.

On wednesday the 16th of october 2019 room 7 played a game called crip donut miss ashley Annoyance the rules. “ We had to get into buddy's one buddy is in the middle and one other buddy had to go on the outside and make a donut shape’’ miss ashley would come around and give us cards my buddy was my 2nd best friend joshua we always be buddy’s on the cards were would you rather cards the outside of the circle had to rotate in circles to the left the inside of the donut had to tell the outside there question first.
My first person was Joshua and his question was “if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?”. I replied “new York because that has always been my dream to see famous singers”. And my question was “would you rather hold a snake or a frog?” and his answer was a frog.
“Why?”
“because the snake might bite me”.
My second person was lily and her question was “If you could get any superpower in the world what would it be I laughed and explained flying superpower because I could fly around the world and travel and another reason was that I would never be late for school again”. My question was would you rather hold a snake or a frog and her question was a snake because a frog is way to slimy”.
My third person that asked me a question was michael and his question was “would you rather live in space or live under water?” My answer was “under water because I can see all the lovely species of fish”. I replied to his question is would you rather hold a snake or a frog he laughed and said “I would rather hold a snake because I love snakes”.
My fourth person was fereti his question was “would you rather fly or have super strength?”
“super strength because I could be able to lift anything”.
“would you rather carie a snake or a frog?”
“ frog because she is scared to carie a snake”.

Rakel's writing about ako afternoon

Yesterday afternoon Tamaki primary had a ako afternoon. Ako afternoon is a project event that you have to create a project like room 7 created a diorama project it we did the rainforest, deserts, woodlands, and also the arctic. Other people came to our class to look at our dioramas and I am sure that they learnt a thing or two about that habitats that we did our dioramas. On and my class and the other classes asked a lot of questions then after the classes came to our class we went to other peoples classes and we did lots of stuff. In room 3 we learnt how to plant seeds in a cup we could choose to plant a sunflower, garlic and also a tomato I chose a sunflower and we went outside to the garden to find some soil. Then we put the soil in the cup then we made a hole with our gloves then we put the seed in then buried it in the soil then we watered it then we went back to class and we put it on the window.

dinosaur knowledge

Room 7
Dinosaur knowledge
Prior Knowledge
In 2 weeks, we learnt that...
Animal
Predator
Dino is the root word
‘Saurs’ means something
Species
Extinct
Huge
Large bones
Long necks
Eggs
Sharp teeth
Long tails
Eat people
Different kinds
Spikes
Horns
Mammals
4 legs
Bipedal means 2 feet and quadruped means 4 feet. Some dinosaurs are bipedal and some are quadrupeds. Some can change between the two stances. They are sturdy.
Theropod is a 3 clawed dinosaurs
Dinosaurs are warm-blooded, which means their blood temperature is always the same
Carnivore means a meat eater
Herbivore means a plant eater
Omnivore means it can eat plants and meat
Some dinosaurs are huge and some are small. Typically, huge dinosaurs were sluggish (slow).
Dinosaurs died out 66 million years ago. They started existed 230 million years.
They died because of an extinction event, most people think this was because a meteor hit the Earth.
Dinosaurs legs go out the bottom of their hip bones, whereas reptiles bones go to the side of their hips. Reptiles do not have an extra hole in their skull, but dinosaurs do.
Mary Anning found lots of fossils on a cliffside in England in the 19th century. She was born in 1799 and died in 1847. She survived a lightning strike as a baby. In 1824 she found the first fossil.
Non-avian dinosaurs are dinosaurs that are not birds. Avian means birds.
Metabolism means how fast or slow your body converts food into energy
Diverse means a big range
Modifications means changes. Dinosaurs have modifications such as spikes, armour, horns or crests.
Clade means family.
Lineage means ancestors/descendants
Paleontologists are scientists that study ancient things including dinosaurs
There are 4 main groups of dinosaurs; theropods, sauropods, ankylosaurus and pterosaurs.
Titanoboa was top of the food chain after the dinosaurs died. It killed people by constricting people. It spent most of its time in the water because it was super heavy. It was 13m long, as big as a bus.
Hominids existed when 7-6 million years ago, the first humans to walk on 2 feet.
People did not exist when dinosaurs existed.
Adaptation is something that changes over time.
Ecology - how animals relate to each other
Fossils are made when dinosaurs die and their bones get trapped in rock or mud. The bones break down over time but leave a mould, which is filled with rock. This becomes the fossil.
Dinosaurs sometimes eat each other.
There were 3 periods of time that have dinosaurs. This is called the ‘age of dinosaurs’ also known as the ‘Mesozoic Era’; Triassic period, Jurassic period, and Cretasous period.
Then there were 3 more periods in time, “Age of mammals”, also known as ‘Cenozoic Era’; Paleogene Period, Neogene period and Quaternary period.
Dinosaur fossils have been found on every continent, including Antarctica.
Joan Wiffen found the first dinosaur fossil (a theropods tailbone) in NZ in 1975, in Hawkes Bay. She died in 2009.
Dinosaurs laid eggs and they lived in family groups.

Rakel and Micheal's writing

Once upon a time there was a Guy/Hunter called Steve Rogers. He was hunting for a Tiger in the Rainforest so he can get a nice dinner for his Family.
He found a Tiger in the meadow, he stalked it until he found that he was being watched by the tiger so he took a shot but he missed. Then the tiger chased him so he pulls out his minigun and starts to blast the tiger with reds. After a little bit he runs out of bullets but luckily it was weak. So he got his knife and stabbed it.
Then he took it home and cook a little bit of it because it was too big for his family to eat so he put some in the fridge for lunch and dinner. Before he went to get the tiger he went to go and get some water so his family can have something to eat.
